When you are a first time homebuyer, you don’t know what you don’t know!  And you may be getting conflicting advice from parents. family, friends, and work associates, so it can be hard to know where to start when you want to become well informed about buying a home. Lenders want you to be well informed so you can make good decisions, and many loan programs require that first time home buyers complete a course and provide a certificate of completion.

The good news is that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac each offer a free and comprehensive first-time homebuyer course that will provide you with the information you need to take the next steps towards homeownership. These courses are interchangeable – so Fannie Mae will accept your Freddie Mac Certificate, and Freddie Mac will accept your Fannie Mae Certificate.

Here are links to the 2 free courses – where you can learn how to save and prepare for your home purchase, work with lenders and real estate professionals, understand the mortgage process, and so much more. Please share a copy of your certificate with us once you have it.
